Products We Install
With a wide verity of effective products available these days there is never a space that we can't insulate. It all comes down to the desired R-value and tightness and how much you wish to save.

Cellulose Insulation
  • Our most popular product is Cellulose Insulation manufactured by Applegate. Cellulose is the most cost effective and environmentally friendly product that we are able to offer. It can be installed in your home today or in the new house that's still being built. Cellulose is a mixture of mostly recycled newspaper and the natural mineral borax. Cellulose is able to offer a higher effectice R-value than fiberglass because it is amorphous and can completely fill building cavities even where the are obsticals such as plumbing, wiring, and irregular framing. The environment also thanks you for not letting this paper make its way into landfills. The borax that is added will discourage any insects and rodents from being tempted to eat or nest in the walls. It also helps make the insulation fire resistant.

Foil-Faced High-R Board

  • Polyisocyanurate Foil-Faced Boards are a very energy efficient building material. Usually it is used on foundations  because it is moisture resistant but can also be used on exterior walls and other places that need high R-value in a limited depth and you can also take advantege of the added reflective value of the foil skin. You don't have to finish the surface if you upgrade to the Thermax line which is sufficiently fireproof to be left uncoveredand. Foil-faced boards are now produced with a non-HCFC blowing agent, meeting the latest environmental regulations for using chemicals that do not harm the protective ozone layer in the earth’s atmosphere. The new formula enhances the positive environmental profile for this energy-saving product.

Polyurethane spray foam
  • Spray polyurethane foam is the king of building materials for multitasking. We are able to retro-fit many spaces with spray foam to solve a verity of problems.  For moisture prone areas it can provide high levels of R-value, while providing air barriers and assistance in moister control in buildings. It can typically be applied to crawl space walls to seal out drafts. Many times if the foundation is a rock wall this is the best option. More often then not the rim joist is also left unsealed and uninsulated. Spray foam is the perfect material to use for this hard to reach spot.

Low-E

  • Low-E is produced from non-toxic polyethlene foam heat laminated between two surfaces of 99.4% pure aluminum facings. Low-E reflective insulation resists all three types of heat transfer: convection, conduction, and radiation. This space age product also provides a full vapor barrier with sound deadening properties. Low-E foil insulation is primarily used in general construction, under roofing, attic spaces, crawl spaces, or in walls, as part of the buildings insulation system

At Catskill Windmill we offer you solutions taylored to your specific needs. We don't just move products that we like to sell. However, all the products that we do install we stand behind 100% as being the most effective and the greenest available. This in the end gives you a better result, and more money in your pocket because you will be spending less on energy bills.

What we also do...

Insulating building cavities and surfaces is not all we do. There's many other places that money can be saved as well.

Pipe Insulation

The pipes that run domestic hot water throughout the house can be insulated to conserve some,  as well as pipes for that are part of the heating system.

Ducts

It is very common to find that the Heating/Cooling duct system was not properly sealed and insulated when it was installed. The ducts that carry air to and from the rooms of your home need to be properly sealed and insulated. If they are not then conditioned air is being wasted and unwanted unhealthy air from crawl spaces and/or the basement could be leaking into the the system through the return line.

To solve this problem the seams are first sealed with mastic and then the ducts are wraped with low-E insulation.

Dehumidifier

Having consistent moisture in your basement or crawl space could allow mold to start growing which can be harmful to you and your family. We will install an energy star dehumidifier and have it drain automatically so you can set it and forget it.

Crawl space Vents

It is common practice to build homes and have vents installed into the crawl space foundation walls. Modern understanding of how moisture management in a crawl space tells us that we need to seal the crawl space as tight as possiable and eliminate the moisture in that confined space. This is because these vents usually cause more moisture to accumulate rather than dissapate. Also any dirt floor that's in or under your house we can cover. By laying  a sheet of plastic down we can block out moisture, keeping it from entering your home and potentially growing mold.

Roof Vent Baffles

Vent baffles are used to keep air flowing under the roof. Their primary purpose is to allow air circulation between the soffit and roof ridge vents.

New Windows

Windows in a house can be a significant source of heat loss, especially if they are old school single pane windows. Newer windows have at lest 2 panes if not 3. Between each pane is a gas such as argon and and the surface of the glass is also coated to increase energy efficiency. By replacing old windows, although it can sometimes be expensive, it can significantly increase the efficiency of the house as well as give your home a beautiful new look.
